Samantha Wright, “Headspace” for January First Friday

Full Circle Nine Gallery Features Samantha Wright’s “Headspace” for January First Friday

November 8th, 2023
Indianapolis, IN—The Full Circle Nine Gallery (FC9) will feature Samantha Wright in “Headspace” as part of the First Friday art tour at the Full Circle Nine Gallery (FC9), 6-9pm on Friday, January 5th. Admission and parking are free.

Fantastical, dreamy, abstract: They are the elastic boundaries in which “Headspace” resides.

Samantha Wright says her exhibit “brings me closer to my soul,” while acting therapeutic and granting a sense of accomplishment. The artist confesses that she struggles with insecurity, and that work such as “Headspace breaks through the barrier of not feeling “good enough,” while bringing her back to who she truly is.

“I do what I do,” Wright said, “because artmaking brings me closer to my soul and it’s a therapy for me. It makes me feel a sense of accomplishment when I’ve created something.”

“My art is a form of healing and escapism,” Wright said, of her collected paintings. “In my daily life, I deal with major anxiety and OCD. I have trouble leaving my house without checking certain things and worry that something may happen to them and it’ll be my fault. I worry I’m not good enough. I also deal with past traumas that haunt me. I share my pain with the world, and in doing so, I start to purge the weight of it.

Hopefully in doing this, I can help create a space of healing and perhaps even furthered passion into the art I do.”

About Samantha Wright

Samantha Wright was born and raised in Indiana, and she’s been creating since she can remember. She doesn’t know how it started, she just remembers drawing cartoon characters from Nickelodeon, people oohing and awing, and thinking, “Oh hey! Maybe I’m actually good at this,” and kept at it. Now, we have the present-day Sam. For school, Wright attended Ivy Tech Community College, where she received her associate degree in fine arts, and then she went on to the Herron School of Art and Design, where she obtained her BFA in Fine Arts.

Her weapons of choice are canvas and paint brush, because for her, it’s one of the easiest to work with. Wright did enjoy doing MIG welding when she attended Herron, but because she doesn’t have access to those facilities anymore, her options are a bit more limited to what she can work with.
