Full Circle Nine Gallery Features Travis Owens, “Ethereal Projections” for November First Friday

October 12, 2023
Indianapolis, IN—The Full Circle Nine Gallery (FC9) will feature Travis Owens in “Ethereal Projections” as part of the First Friday art tour at the Full Circle Nine Gallery (FC9), 6-9pm on Friday, November 3rd. Admission and parking are free.

“Ethereal Projections” will project the essence and importance of nostalgia and personal memory and experience through the lens of surrealism, using acrylic on canvas. Owens grew up in small-town life in Seymour, Indiana, and “Ethereal Projections” captures the longing the artist felt in wanting to know what is happening, and what has happened, in the wider world.

Owens leans specifically on movies from the 80s and 90s, and the sense of wonderment one experiences when viewing them at a young age. Inspired by well-loved movies such as Beetlejuice, Ghostbusters and the Indiana Jones series, Owens borrows the special effects lighting to cast his own perspective, while conveying the magic imbued from such mediums.

“I try to transfer the spirit of the films to my own surreal landscapes of places I had traveled to abroad, or right here in my very own backyard here in Indiana. I also have many muses to where I will take that very same concept for any of my pop surrealism ideas,” says Owens.

Owens wants to reach his audience and push his ideas into the depths of their minds, encouraging more thought and ideas. “Ethereal Projections” casts a warm glow at a time when the environment is becoming colder.

About Travis Owens

Travis Owens is a self-taught painter. He’s proud to say he’s lived in Indiana his entire life, minus a few years traveling abroad and exploring the West Coast. “I felt compelled to see what else is out there,” Owens said. “By doing so, traveling has inspired me to take more meaning out of life and more interest in being creative. After living in Indianapolis for several years, I realized I wanted to paint ideas from home as well. I always feel like a person who can find beauty no matter where you are, and life comes full circle.”

Owens focuses on creating a sense of warmth and vibrancy in his art, inspired by home and travel. Owens hopes to take viewers on a visual journey of beauty and glowing light. “If I can make that happen, then I’ll feel like I’ve succeeded at one of the more meaningful parts of my life, besides my family,” Owens said.
